Taking care of Invisalign

Invisalign Golders Green is an amazing system for anyone wanting to bring a little magic to their smile. These amazing trays can fix a multitude of orthodontic sins and give you the smile you’ve always dreamed of. But whilst on the journey to a Hollywood smile you need to ensure you’re taking excellent care of your trays and we at The Garden Dental Practice have all the information you need to help you do so.

What makes up the Invisalign system?

Invisalign Golders Green is a brace system that uses removable clear plastic aligners to encourage teeth into a different position. They are unlike any other system on the market and are excellent for anyone wanting to straighten their smile in a more subtle way.

Invisalign can correct lots of different issues including: overbites, underbites, crossbites, crowding, gaps and overlaps.

As you go through the treatment journey you will be given new sets of aligners every two weeks or so, which will target a new tooth movement, once this movement is complete you’ll move on to the next set and so on until completion.

Cleaning your Invisalign Golders Green

Since you’ll only be wearing each aligner for two weeks before moving on to the next, the temptation to not clean them properly can be pretty high, but let us assure you this is a mistake. If you want to avoid the development of gum disease or decay you need to be taking care of the hygiene of your aligners every single day.

You don’t need to over complicate the cleaning of your trays, you just need to invest in a manual soft bristled toothbrush and perhaps some cleaning solution.

Brushing

When brushing your aligners you need to make sure you are doing the inside and outside of the trays. Apply a small amount of toothpaste or clear soap to your toothbrush and then run it along the full length of the aligners. Make sure you aren’t applying too much pressure as you run the risk of damaging the trays.

Cleaning solution

With cleaning solutions you don’t need to break the bank, there are heaps of different products on the market with some coming in at being rather pricey. The cleaning solution is there to kill any of the bacteria you haven’t reached during brushing and to give the appliance back its crystal clear shine. This can be achieved by a simple denture solution, but by all means use other branded products if you wish.

You should be cleaning your aligners twice a day, once with a brush and once with a cleaning solution. It’s a good idea to do this once in the morning and then again in the evening. You can pick whichever way round it’s best to do for you.

Handy tips and tricks

As you aren’t allowed to eat or drink whilst wearing your aligners we highly recommend that you always carry a travel toothbrush and toothpaste and a hard case for you aligners. This means you’ll always have somewhere safe to put your aligners, but also that you won’t get caught out when you’re eating out with friends or work colleagues.
