Shaping up your smile with dental implants
At The Garden Dental Practice, we understand the emotional turmoil you can go through over missing teeth. It can have a negative impact upon your self-esteem as you ardently avoid smiling, clamping your lips tight shut instead, feeling like you look slightly deranged in photographs because your face isn’t behaving naturally. Thankfully, we can help to change all of this with dental implants. Implants can be used to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth and the results are fantastic: you will have crowns or bridges that are fitted so securely, they act like normal teeth - you can eat and drink whatever you want! We can even attach over-dentures too in as little as a day.
Here’s everything you need to know about implants with The Garden Dental Practice.
In order to assess if you are suitable for treatment, we carry out an initial consultation. During this, we examine your mouth and use radiographs, study models and diagnostic templates. We need to check you have sufficient bone in your jaw to attach the implants to. Sometimes, patients may require a CT scan. Using the information, we will have a 3D visualisation of your jaws and from this, we can see how much bone you have. We can also check where your nerves and sinuses are to ensure that we know where to avoid when we are putting your implants in.
Depending on your individual circumstances, you will be advised on the best type of implant for you. At The Garden Dental Practice, we have a range that can be fitted in a day using the SmartFix Concept, the Ankylos SynCone System for attaching over-dentures, or the implants for attaching crowns or bridges that require 3-6 months for the screws to be embedded into the jaw. We will happily discuss the treatment options available to you and our expertise in this field will ensure that you have the best care possible for changing your smile into a stunner!
How do implants work?
Dental implants in Golders Green consist of titanium screws, which are attached to your jaw bone and act as the replacement roots for your teeth. Put simply, this means that your crowns, bridges or over-dentures will be securely fitted like your natural teeth and will enable you to eat and drink as normal without the worry that they could become loose. You may remember the clacking of your grandparents’ false teeth as they talked? Not so with implants! The results really are fantastic and should give you lots of confidence back. The screws can require up to 6 months to embed themselves into your jaw before the permanent replacement teeth can be attached, but it’s worth the wait when you finally have replacement teeth that are built to last, as long as you look after them with regular flossing and brushing twice daily.
