Do you want to have dental implants in Golders Green?

Oral implants are becoming more popular and understandably so. They offer a great way to hide gaps in your smile, whilst also being stable enough to ensure you can eat any food you desire. They are recommended by those who have had them fitted, not only because they are natural looking and easy to maintain, but they also offer longevity rarely seen with other forms of cosmetic procedures.

Despite this popularity, very little is known by those considering having dental implants in Golders Green, about how they are fitted and what the procedure actually entails.

At Garden Dental Practice, we have provided you with a straightforward, step by step guide on how we fit dental implants in Golders Green.

Initial consultation

When you come to your initial consultation with a member of our dental team, we will examine your mouth and discuss with you your suitability for oral implants. If you have gum disease or tooth decay on any of your remaining teeth, or require any other treatments, these concerns will need to be addressed before we undertake the next step.

We will discuss the procedure and risks with you in jargon-free language, ensuring you fully understand what the treatment entails. Our team will state how many implants will be required to give you your desired smile, provide you with an estimated timescale and answer any questions you may have.

We will also perform X-rays and other tests we require at this consultation.

Implant fitting

You will be given a general anaesthetic or intravenous sedation before we proceed.

We will make an incision in your gum line, above where we will be fitting the implant(s) and peel the gum back, exposing your jawbone. We will drill a small hole into your jaw and fit the implants(s), assuming you do not have an open socket from a recent extraction.

When all of your implants are in place, our team will sew your gum line up with dissolvable stitches, leaving the top of the metal implants showing above your gums.

Healing and growth

Depending on the condition of your jaw and your overall health, it may take up to 6 months for your jawbone to regenerate around the implant; this must be achieved in order for your implants to provide a secure basis for your new teeth.

When you come back after a set period agreed between you and your dentist, X-rays will be performed to ensure your jaw has grown around the implant(s) successfully.

Prosthesis fitting

The prosthesis you receive will depend on how many teeth you want to have replaced; we can offer anything between a single tooth up to a full set of teeth, custom fitted to your jawbone.

Having your prosthesis fitted can be done in one visit and you will leave our surgery ready to show off your new smile to the world!
