Dental implants in Golders Green
Have you recently lost a tooth? Maybe you have had an accident or you have lost a tooth under natural circumstances. If you do have a missing tooth, it is highly recommended that you seek treatment at your earliest convenience. This is not only for aesthetic purposes but to avoid any neighbouring teeth leaning into the gap where a tooth once was.
So if any of the aforementioned scenarios apply to you, then you may want to consider receiving dental implants in Golders Green with us, The Garden Dental Practice.
What is a dental implant?
Dental implants are small screws which are typically made out of titanium. Considered a replacement tooth root, they are placed into a patient’s jawbone where there should be a tooth, in order to provide a stable foundation for the replacement tooth to be fixed onto.
At The Garden Dental Practice, we offer both single and multiple tooth dental implants in Golders Green. This treatment is considered to be one of the most secure and long-term solutions for patients who have lost a tooth and want to get their smile back.
Multiple dental implants in Golders Green
If you have had the unfortunate experience of losing more than one tooth, the gaps where your teeth used to be will start to experience jawbone degeneration and as a result, your gums will start to recede. This will also start to affect your remaining surrounding teeth as over time as they can also start to rotate, drift and push out of their normal position, which can unfortunately lead to further dental complications.
At our practice Garden Dental, we want to avoid this from happening so we use multiple dental implants to replace your natural teeth.
How does it work
In order to replace a tooth, you will be required to have a minor surgical procedure. As mentioned earlier, dental implants are small titanium posts which are placed directly onto the jawbone. This process is known to take several months to complete and can also require more than one surgical procedure.
Under local anaesthetic, our oral surgeon will make a small incision in the gum which will expose the jawbone. A hole is then drilled deep into the bone in order for the dental implant to be placed. This is so that the dental implant is secure and sturdy for the replacement tooth.
The jawbone needs to have fused with the surface of the dental implant therefore before the permanent tooth is fixed onto the metal screw, a temporary tooth is placed in the gap while the jawbone fuses with the top of the implant. Once the gum is healed, an impression will be taken of your remaining teeth which will be used to make the permanent implant crown. Once this has been made, the replacement tooth will be fixed under sterile conditions.
Fixed implant - supported bridges
Also offered at our practice, these custom-made bridges usually require 6 to 8 implants in each jaw to support the bridge. It is not suitable for all patients as they aim to replace a full arch of teeth, however they still offer patients the most natural and lifelike feel to their replacement teeth. Patients are required to have adequate bone density and gum health before the treatment can be carried out.
