Mrs IR had gaps on both sides of her upper teeth and for many years these had been noticeable on smiling broadly. The silver amalgam fillings in her upper molars were also more visible because of the unsightly gaps. Having been a patient for many years we had discussed the possibility of classical bridgwork. We decided that would have taken too much of her natural teeth away and she was also worried about the cost (about £1200 per side). Recently I proposed a bonded resin bridge where the silver amalgam was removed, a chrome cobalt wire was formed for strength, and the resin filling material shaped around the wire. Thus the extra tooth was fixed to the rear molar and the wire rested on the forward tooth. Each side took one visit and cost £450 and there was no damage to the adjacent teeth.
